The Effect of Ox-Bile on the Multiplication of Shigella spp.

Abstract
|
|
|
This study was performed to find out the reason for seasonal changes of epidemics and the effect of ox-bile on the growth of Shigella and the results were follows.
1. Shigella dysenteriae does not survive over 20 days in distilled water on the other hand, Shigella Jlexneri can survive for 70 days or more.
2. Shigella dysenteriae can survive for 50 days in distilled water and BHI broth added ox-bile. Shigella flexneri can survive rather longer than Shigella dysenteriae.
3. This results suggest that the growth of Shigella was not inhibited with ox-bile in tetrathionate broth, MacConkey agar media and SS agar plate medium.
